 If a motorcycle has been sitting for quite some time, then the inside of the tank will start to develop moisture and rust. If you buy a used motorcycle tank to replace the tank of your bike, you will not know what is on the inside of it. In order to keep out any gook or rust from your motorcycle, you will have to make sure the inside if the rank is thoroughly clean before you can use it.

 Follow these simple techniques so you can be sure that nothing harmful gets into your motorcycle engine.

 STEP 1- ON HOW TO CLEAN A MOTORCYCLE GAS TANK

 Remove the tank from the motorcycle. You can refer to the manufacturers manual t learn how to do this. If no manual is available, follow this basic technique.  Unhook any gas or vacuum lines. Some motorcycles have fuel valves on the gas tank. If you have one, you will have to remove it also. If your motorcycle has a low fuel sensor, you will need to also remove it.

 Cover all the holes in the motorcycle tank. You can use a short piece of hose clamped into the fittings on the tank and close the end with a bolt.

  Dumb a bag of bbs into your motorcycle gas tank and add ½ gallon of diesel or fuel. Shake the tank vigorously. The bbs will remove all rust or any other debris and the diesel fuel will keep the particles suspended so that they will dump out.

STEP 4- ON HOW TO CLEAN A MOTORCYCLE GAS TANK

 Open the cap of your gas tank and look inside. If it is not clean enough to your satisfaction, repeat the process in step 3. Do so until you are satisfied.

 Once you are satisfied, pour out the diesel fuel and bb mixture. Shake the tank to ensure you have removed all the BBs. Flush inside the tank thoroughly with gasoline to remove all traces of fuel or diesel.

 Once you are done, your gas tank is now rust-free and ready to use.
